Kyengera

Kyengera is a fast-growing town in Wakiso District, about 9 km south-west of Kampala on the road to Masaka. Masjid Starah Kyengera and the places around it are built by and for this community.

What has been built

Masjid Starah Kyengera

The walls of the masjid stand and the congregation already prays inside. Until the roof is finished, rain reaches the prayer hall.

Primary school

Children learn the national curriculum alongside Qur’an and Islamic studies, a few steps from the masjid.

Artisan workshop

Young people learn to use sewing machines and earn from their skill. The workshop currently makes the uniforms for the school.

Marketplace

The market sells halal food and clothing. A restaurant is planned beside it for the whole community, including the Ramadan iftars that grow too large for the masjid to host alone.
